Outside the canon

Quoted in the Bible. Banned from it.

The New Testament quotes it by name: "Enoch, the seventh from Adam, prophesied…" (Jude 14). The earliest churches read it. Then the councils came, and the Book of Enoch was left out of the canon of the West.

It should have vanished. Instead it survived two thousand years in the mountain monasteries of Ethiopia, copied by hand in Geʻez, complete: the Watchers, the two hundred angels of Mount Hermon, the Nephilim, the judgment to come.

Read the book they left out. Decide for yourself.

"Why it was removed": the real history

The translator

R. H. Charles, D.Litt., D.D.

Oxford scholar of Second Temple apocalyptic literature and the man who did more than anyone to bring 1 Enoch into English. His translation has been a standard for over a century — and it is the text most cheap reprints copy without saying so.

Where this text comes from

Named, dated where datable.

Set from the public-domain text published by Wikisource, which does not record which of Charles's printings it reproduces. Rather than print an edition and a year we cannot verify, this book says so plainly on its own copyright page. Aramaic → Geʻez → Charles's English, reproduced word for word.

Enoch is having its loudest century since the canon closed: debated on the biggest podcasts in the world, taught in seminaries, and the subject of documentaries with hundreds of millions of views. This is the book they're all talking about. (We name the phenomenon. No one has endorsed this edition, and we won't pretend otherwise.)

Why we made this

We went looking for an edition of Enoch worth owning, and found a market full of imitations: invented translators, "88 lost books" that never existed, and pages scanned so many times the type barely holds together.

So we printed the one we couldn't find — the complete text, honestly credited, typeset with care, and made to order in the USA. Every claim on this page has to survive the same scrutiny we point at the counterfeits.

Questions

Everything you'd want to know

Is this the complete Book of Enoch?

Yes — all 108 chapters of 1 Enoch: the Book of the Watchers, the Parables, the Astronomical Book, the Dream Visions, and the Epistle of Enoch. "Complete" is the whole point: most cheap reprints sell fragments padded with filler, or invent extra "lost books" that don't exist.

Which translation is it?

+

R. H. Charles's English translation from the Ethiopic, which is in the public domain. It is reproduced word for word — never paraphrased, modernised, or machine-generated. Charles's scholarly brackets and daggers have been removed for readability, and the book explains exactly what was removed and why.

When does it ship?

+

Each copy is printed and bound after you order it, then shipped tracked — typically arriving in roughly two weeks. Nothing sits pre-printed in a warehouse.

Is this a religious product? Is it endorsed by a church?

+

No. Enoch Scrolls is an independent publisher with no affiliation to any church. 1 Enoch is scripture within the Ethiopian Orthodox tradition and a historical document everywhere else; this edition presents it with its sources named and leaves the conclusions to you.

What if I don't love it?

+

Thirty days from delivery, full refund of the purchase price, no questions asked.

Is the cover real gold foil?

+

No — the cover uses a matte laminate finish with a gold-toned frame and seal, not true foil stamping. We'd rather say that plainly than let the photos imply something the printing process doesn't deliver.
